Day full of meetings, which I have to say were quite productive. Exciting news from my Dutch friends Tim & Bart Gronefeld, a new caliber being created, possibly later the year or for next Basel, simpler piece, more affordable price too! Will be finding out more today.
Romain Gauthier's second part of the Prestige collection is revealed. It took him 2 months to realise the first two prototypes from deciding on the idea. That is a huge accomplishment, and a testament to his passion and capacity for creating something quickly. He is one hard working guy! This is since we met in California in December, as he did not have this idea until January.
Vianney's art is going up in value as he explained to me quite eloquently and passionately, those of you jumped in will be happy to hear his latest pricing! Ten years of making the Classic with all it's almost insane hand finishing, was a losing proposition from a financial standpoint for Vianney. Taking 45 minutes to correctly finish & polish a single screw that originally costs CHF1...well you can do the maths on that one!
Marco Lang has been hard at work creating a lovely new addition to his portfolio, the Heinrich, similar to last years Konrad, but with the addition of a power reserve and a solid silver dial with romans. At 39.4mm it is a welcome size for those who find the first pieces from Marco a bit big on their wrist.
I met up after the show and spent the evening with Stephen McGonigle, the initial series of their new watch is sold out, lucky for those that jumped on this one. The good news is that there will be a future watch next year for everyone else to jump in.
Thomas Prescher's Double Axis Tourbillon Mysterieuse is off the chart! He has been working on this for 2 years in secret, and the prototype is quite something to behold!
Must get going here back into the fair, will be adding much more...
Cheers,
Tim
